Yellowstone National Park
A 3D terrain visualisation of Yellowstone National Park, highlighting points of interest and land formations. Designed for display as an overview of this region.
Yellowstone is one of the world’s oldest national parks, for many the oldest altogether. It was the first area to be designated National Park status in the United States, established in 1872. This region is world famous for its geothermal features, including Old Faithful geyser and the Grand Prismatic Spring, with the whole region sitting on the Yellowstone hotspot.
The three dimensional appearance of this graphic has been created with a technique involving satellite imagery, whereby the image has been 'draped' over a digital elevation model. The mountain formations of this region lend themselves well to a presentation of this type.
Data from the following sources were used in the compilation of this presentation: Blue Marble: Next Generation: NASA's Earth Observatory; Landsat: USGS/NASA; National Elevation Dataset (NED): USGS.
