The Oregon Trail formed the route taken by pioneers during the 19th Century as they travelled to the west coast of North America looking for a better quality of life and economic prosperity.
This map was produced for a title within a children's reading scheme. Given the historical nature of the subject matter, a different approach has been used in order to give the map an antique look. Dedicated digital art tools have been used to achieve this effect through the employment of a painterly style that, it is hoped, has given this map a more hand-crafted appearance.
Merritt Cartographic has a good amount of experience researching information for display on maps with an historic slant, as like this one.
This map, as with many others produced by Merritt Cartographic, makes use of a locator inset to help put the feature region in to its wider context.
