Hurricane
This model was produced to provide an overview of the typical structure of a hurricane. The emphasis was to focus attention upon the overall scale of a meteorological system of this type.
Although this is a generic model, as opposed to an accurate representation of a real-life event, data pertaining to the structure of the cloud formations was based upon images of October 2002's Hurricane Lili.
The satellite data relating to the cloud formations was used to generate a 'height map'. This formed the basis of the three-dimensional representation.
Data from the following sources were used in the compilation of this model: Blue Marble: Next Generation: NASA's Earth Observatory; NASA Visible Earth; SRTM30: NASA/USGS.
